More than 60 children are able to take advantage of a summer lunch program every Thursday in July through Redeemer Crisis Center. Volunteers and youth workers engage children with a Vacation Bible School program containing Bible stories, songs, crafts, field trips, and presenters. Upon completion of the program, every participant receives a book bag filled with necessary school supplies.
Youth workers in this program are teens and young adults 14 – 19 years old. Workers are assigned to positions for a job experience complete with applications, interviews, responsibilities, expectations and a small stipend. The workers use their “pay checks” to purchase clothing for the upcoming school year to give them a taste of independence.
Since 1989, offering the Summer Youth Program has provided vital life skills for these teens and children that are often times life changing for them. Many doors open for these children, and opportunities arise that might not have otherwise been possible without these experiences. We are so very proud to provide this program to our community!
